The short version
I'm the guy who's always the last to leave the party and the first to make you feel welcome when you arrive. Outgoing, energetic, a little ridiculous in the best possible way. But I'm also a homebody who sometimes needs a push to get off the couch, which means I contain multitudes. Once I'm out, I'm all in. Getting me there is half the battle.
Right now I'm in a good chapter. Stable, focused, learning Spanish badly but enthusiastically, and genuinely ready for something real. Not casual, not undefined. A partner. Someone to come home to, travel with, and snuggle on the couch with on a random Tuesday night. My kids are grown, my dog is perfect, and there's a lot of room in my life for the right woman.
What makes Karl Karl
Here's the thing about me: I'm not trying to impress you. I'm just going to show up, fix something you didn't know needed fixing, make you laugh with a pun so bad it's good, and somehow make the whole room feel calmer just by being in it.
๐ง The guy who just does things
If something would make your life easier and I have the means and skills to get it done, I'll just do it. Not because I feel obligated. Because that's how I show people I care.
๐ Funny in the way that actually matters
I don't tell jokes. I find them. In whatever is already happening around me. My humor lives in puns, wordplay, and the perfectly timed observation that makes you snort-laugh when you weren't expecting it. I'll say it and just wait. You'll get there.
๐ The calm in the room
I don't raise my voice. I don't get flustered easily. Someone once told me my voice is so calming I should start a business around it. I'm still considering it. In the meantime I use it to defuse tense situations, explain complicated things simply, and make anxious people feel like everything is going to be fine. Because it is.
๐ฏ All in
I don't do anything halfway. Whatever the job is, I show up as a leader, not a follower. I'm the first one there, the last to leave, and I don't shy away from doing what needs to be done. That's just how I'm wired.
Things Karl loves
If you want to get me excited about something, bring up any of the following. Bonus points if you already know who Phinneas is.
What Karl values
-
๐งญ
Authenticity โ What you see is what you get. I don't perform a version of myself to impress you, and I don't expect you to either.
-
๐คฃ
Humor โ Life is too short to be serious all the time. Laughter is how I connect, and if it flows naturally between us, we're already halfway there.
-
๐ค
Kindness โ I try to treat everyone with the same respect, the stranger, the server, the person who has nothing to offer. It costs nothing and it matters more than most people realize.
-
๐คฒ
Generosity โ I pay attention. If you mention something in passing, I'll remember it. My time, my energy, and my thoughtfulness are yours freely. The rest is just details.
-
๐
Adventure โ I'm not a thrill seeker, but I'll say yes before I feel ready. That's how I ended up salsa dancing, and in Colombia, and probably a few other places I haven't been yet.
A typical Karl day
Most mornings start the same way: Phinneas outside, then two scrambled eggs on buttered sourdough with Parmesan Romano and a cup of coffee. I'm a creature of habit and I make no apologies for it. Four days a week I'm at the gym after breakfast, then home working on property management or whatever needs my attention that day.
Evenings are where it gets interesting. Some nights I'm at Roots Music Project, some nights I'm at choir practice, some nights I'm watching a show in Spanish to practice (La Reina del Sur anyone?), playing piano, or losing badly at Mario. But the best nights, honestly, are the ones that involve other people. A good conversation, a reason to get off the couch, someone to share it with. That's what a really good Karl day looks like in the end.
